Yuga Labs Hands Off Game Development to Faraway, Focuses on Otherside

Yuga Labs has chosen to hand over the development of two of its gaming projects, Legends of the Mara and HV-MTL. Faraway, the gaming studio behind Doo-Key Dash is fast becoming a recognizable gaming company within the industry. With this decision, Yuga Labs can focus entirely on the development of its most ambitious project yet, the thrilling new online multiplayer game The Otherside.

The Yuga-Faraway Deal

Faraway received the rights to a number of NFT collections related to HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara from Yuga Labs. Otherside Vessels, Otherside Maras, Otherside Kodamaras, Otherside Ship Parts, Otherside Catalyst, and Otherside Partner Loot are among these collections, in addition to HV-MTL itself.

Although the deal’s exact financials are not yet known, one thing is certain: both businesses want these NFT collections to be successful. Spencer Tucker, the former Chief Gaming Officer of Yuga Labs, will join Faraway as their new Chief Product Officer as per the terms of the agreement. His responsibility will be to facilitate the transfer and close the gap between the two businesses.

What This Means for Holders

There are certain recent changes you should be aware of if you possess (or are a holder) of any of the NFTs that are part of this transaction. Initially, Faraway has made the decision to burn (eliminate permanently) 4,000 hidden HV-MTL NFTs. As a result, there will be a decrease in the overall supply of HV-MTL NFTs, which can raise their value.

Furthermore, Faraway will now oversee the impending minting—that is, the production and circulation of “Amps,” which are unique NFTs associated with HV-MTL.

Still, that’s not all! With the new points system that Faraway has implemented, owners of these NFTs can accrue points by participating in a variety of activities on the Faraway network. In the future, these points might be exchanged for gifts or other advantages.

Legends of the Mara and HV-MTL will no longer be directly owned by Yuga Labs. However a strong connection between these collections and Yuga’s eagerly awaited Otherside game will remain. As it happens, those who own Yuga’s “Kodas” NFTs—which are essential to Otherside—will also be able to accrue points under Faraway’s upcoming system.

Exclusive Insights from Yuga Labs and Faraway

NFT Now spoke with the key players involved in this significant acquisition to get the inside scoop. Spencer Tucker and Greg Solano, the CEO of Yuga Labs, respectively.

Greg clarified that it is difficult to locate skilled game developers who have a thorough understanding of Web3 and NFTs. But Yuga Labs has been pleased by the Faraway team’s ability to collaborate directly with the community, solicit input, and continuously improve their goods. They were therefore the ideal partner to take one HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara.

Spencer Tucker, who is moving to Faraway from Yuga Labs, mirrored Greg’s enthusiasm. With additional resources at his disposal as Faraway’s new CPO, Spencer can concentrate on bringing the tales and stories behind these NFT collections to life in fascinating new ways.

NFT Now also had a conversation with one of Faraway’s co-founders, Alex Paley. Alex underlined that their objective is to give these cherished brands and its current holders as much value as they can. Similar to how Yuga Labs has delighted the community since its founding, Faraway hopes to do the same by telling new stories and producing novel experiences.

Yuga Labs Doubles Down on the Otherside

The deal is only a small portion of Yuga Labs’ larger plan to put its core values back into focus. That includes satisfying their dedicated NFT community. Recently appointed CEO Greg Solano wants every decision the business makes to bring back the same feeling of enthusiasm and delight that first drew people to projects like the Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Yuga Labs can now focus entirely on its flagship collections. This includes BAYC, the CryptoPunks they recently bought, and, most significantly, the much awaited Otherside online game. Yuga handing over HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara to a committed team at Faraway enables this.

NFT Market Trends and Yuga’s Strategy

Yuga Labs’ strategic change coincides with an intriguing period in the NFT industry. Yuga is upbeat despite the fact that the market for Ethereum-based NFTs has seen better days, with prices, trading volume, and general interest declining.

Greg Solano thinks the secret is to keep focused on making incredible experiences that people actually like, rather than pursuing fleeting trends or narratives. That was, after all, the original attraction of Yuga’s efforts for a large number of individuals.

Final Thoughts

Yuga Labs has taken a risk by handing over the reins for HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara to the skilled staff at Faraway. This decision could have significant benefits for all parties. NFT owners of these collections can anticipate new narratives, novel interactions, and engaging user interfaces for their digital assets.

In the meantime, Yuga Labs can now focus more on the Otherside game, which is its most ambitious project to date. The Otherside aims to revolutionize the NFT and online gaming industries by leveraging the whole creative and resource base of the organization.

How this calculated gamble turns out is a matter for speculation, but one thing is certain: the NFT community will be watching with bated breath!
